Gainesville Florida has always had an impact on popular music dating back to the 60’s where a whole new generation of young performers were making friendships that would last a lifetime and learning what life in a rock & roll band was all about. They traded lessons, listened to various kinds of music and mastered their instruments. Dreaming of someday becoming professional musicians, traveling the world and being recognized for their abilities, they played free shows at the local college and competed in the battle of the bands in hopes that that they'd gain more experience performing and more importantly coming in contact with the right person who would give them their big break. Though an unusual large amount of them did become successful (after leaving Gainesville and heading West) unfortunately most did not and moved on to other professions. This page isn’t just for the people who made it big. It’s for all the musicians of that era that help make North Central Florida one of the most important and influential musical regions in the US during the late 60’s and early 70’s!
