Don Felder Talks About The Songs On Airborne

"Bad Girls"- "This one started out as an Eagles track for The Long Run-- only it was called 'Wild Turkey.' I finished it for this album and wrote a different lyric. I guess you could call it a character study of a particular type of woman."

"Winners"- "This is basically a song about people who live the lifestyle of partying and having fun, waiting for tomorrow to satisfy all their dreams. And that's okay, you know? It's about being a winner, staying alive, and having fun while you're alive."

"Haywire"- "It's about first live, being a teenager -- anxiously anticipating that first sexual encounter. After it happens, what usually happens next is you go HAYWIRE..."

"Who Tonight"- "Some people don't have a single person in their life -- a steady, a wife or husband, or somebody to live with. They're going out four or five days a week; they work in an office or whatever all day, and they get more and more motivated. They don't really know how to pick up the phone and call -- they don't know quite how do it -- so they're getting dressed and going out. The question is, 'Who will you love tonight?'"

"Never Surrender"- "I wrote half the lyrics and Kenny Loggins wrote half. It's about not settling for less than real love -- not surrendering to sexual desires or loneliness or any other ulterior motive -- until you find the answer, which is total supreme happiness in life. Very few people actually discover that, but if you set your criteria real high and refuse everything else you'll either wind up an old maid or end up finding something worthwhile."

"Asphalt Jungle"- "At the end of the song, the Vocoder starts naming all these shitty cities. The song is about kids that get out of high school and go out on the street. They've got visions of success, but they don't have the tool necessary to survive. There are people around every corner that'll mug you and destroy you. The song is dedicated to all those people on the street struggling."

"Night Owl"- "This is about all the people who have lived or are living lifestyles where they get up when the sun goes down and party all night. You know, the people who need sunglasses for the daylight and don't really get going until the stars come out. I'm sure everybody knows someone like that."

"Still Alive"--"Still Alive is basically a song about myself and my wife who  I met long before all this started taking place and it's sort of a little bit of a testimonial to anybody who has gotten married...gotten divorced and the fact that it is true that people can find each other, get married and through hell or high water, through whatever course happens to them in their life, if you hold on to it, you can continue to stay together."
